DMC-LX3 Cameras save RAW files as *.rw2

Currently these do not seem to be supported by Essential HDR.

Is there a method to use  Essential HDR or to convert the files please?

Hi

I downloaded and tested it with a Panasonic LX3 raw file.

It does not even open the file.

The LX3 standard of RAW may be different to your test file?

Please could you check again.

Thank you.

Hi all,

Looks like the problem isn't with the file format itself, but with the suffix RW2.

If I try to open a file from a Panasonic DMC-G1, eg, P1001234.RW2, Essential HDR 1.0.623 ignores it. If I then rename the file to P1001234.RAW, EHDR opens it happily and processes it as it should.

A general workaround for unsupported raw types: try using Adobe's DNG Converter (it's free) to turn the file into a DNG, which EHDR will handle.

There is a technical note from Adobe about the LX3 version expanding the DNG file to three channels for each sensor location due to the revised RW2 format (making the file 3x larger).

I have used the DNG converter then Adobe Camera RAW for Photoshop CS3. It would be ideal if E HDR could tone map directly from the LX3 raw output.

ok; we will get it done. For some reason for all the Panasonic raw file we can find EHDR can open them. It could due to the extension or other issues.

Would you like a file of the rw2 format from LX3  as an example to test?

There is a technical note from Adobe about the LX3 version expanding the DNG file to three channels for each sensor location due to the revised RW2 format (making the file 3x larger).

Adobe may have fixed that in DNG Converter 5.4. When I run it on .rw2 files from my G1, the .dng is considerably smaller (eg, 13.8 MB for .rw2, 8.6 MB for .dng). I've seen someone report similar behaviour in the Adobe forum for LX3 files (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1763782&start=45&tstart=0).

The DNG route isn't a perfect solution, I agree, but it might tide you over. Hope it works for you.

I am using 5.4.0.57 and the rw2 files are converted to dng files that are 32.2 MB each.

This is because I have the compatibility set for CS3.
